Anesthesia

We understand that surgery can be intimidating but with the right anesthesia plan, your procedure can be completed safely, comfortably, and stress-free. As oral and maxillofacial surgeons, we are uniquely trained to administer a full range of anesthesia options, from local numbing to full sedation.

Types of Anesthesia We Offer

  • Local Anesthesia - Used to numb a specific area of the mouth. You’re awake and aware, but you won’t feel pain in the surgical area.

  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) - A mild sedative inhaled through a mask. It helps you feel relaxed and less anxious during the procedure, with quick recovery afterwards.

  • IV Sedation - Medication is administered through a vein to help you enter a deeply relaxed, semi-conscious state. You may not remember much of the procedure, but you’ll breathe on your own and recover quickly.

  • General Anesthesia - This is only available in the Operating Room or Surgical Center in a hospital setting. You are fully asleep and unaware during the procedure. This is used for more complex surgeries or for patients with high anxiety.

Why Choose an Oral Surgeon for Anesthesia?

  • Hospital-Based Anesthesia Training – Oral surgeons receive 4–6 years of hands-on experience in administering anesthesia and managing medical emergencies.

  • Accredited Surgical Facilities – Our office meets strict safety standards and uses advanced monitoring equipment for every sedation case.

  • Surgical Assistants - Our assistants have comprehensive training in anesthesia assisting, emergency protocols, pharmacology, patient monitoring, and surgical safety.

  • Personalized Safety Plans – Every patient is evaluated for medical history, medications, and risk factors before sedation is selected.

What to Expect Before and After Sedation

  • You will receive detailed pre-op and post-op instructions specific to the type of anesthesia being used.

  • If undergoing IV or general anesthesia, you must fast 8 hours prior to procedure and have someone drive you home.

  • Our team will monitor your vital signs throughout the procedure to ensure your safety.

  • Most patients recover quickly and experience minimal discomfort.
